I have no peripheral vision. So last June, when I was at an airport, I bumped into an older man so hard that I almost knocked both of us unconscious. I immediately and profusely apologized, and Don (his name) grabbed me in a way only a loving grandfather can and joked with me about how this is something he bets I do all the time. He was right. After assuring me he was not angry or hurt, I said goodbye, watching as he made his way to his daughter and granddaughter, who were traveling with him.
Don left my partner and I feeling so warm, happy and grateful for him that we automatically started reaching into our pockets to find something to give him – as if we would find something…
